Watch Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 26: Original Air Date July 31, 2007:
We recap the Cattle Industry Summer Conference, where hundreds of cattle producers from across the nation gathered in Denver to discuss critical policy issues and hear from noted industry experts. Among the speakers was Dr. Barry Flinchbaugh of Kansas State University, a longtime professor of agricultural economics. Dr. Flinchbaugh told NCBA members he's confident in the strength of the U.S. cattle industry, but says we must avoid Farm Bill policies that interfere too much in the marketplace.
Ethanol policy was among the hot topics debated in Denver. NCBA Chief Economist Gregg Doud joins our Market Watch segment to talk about this issue's long-term implications for the cattle industry.
Kim Essex, NCBA's vice president of brand strategy and communications also informed cattlemen about the industry's latest efforts to communicate beef's unique nutritional and culinary attributes to consumers.
And you'll hear from two outstanding agricultural graduate students honored at the Summer Conference with the W.D. Farr Scholarship Awards. Presented by the National Cattlemen's Foundation, these $12,000 scholarships help advance the academic and research careers of students reflecting the drive and vision exemplified by one of the cattle industry's greatest pioneers.
