Watch Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 31: Original Air Date September 4, 2007:
Trade issues top the cattle industry news, with the resumption of beef exports to South Korea. Trade with Korea had been suspended for much of August, but now U.S. beef is again for sale in this very important market.
NCBA Chief Executive Officer Terry Stokes anticipates a final rule to be released soon by USDA that will expand cattle and beef imports from Canada. Stokes says that while NCBA has some specific concerns that USDA must address, implementing the rule is an important step toward normalizing beef trade, and it will open up many new export opportunities for U.S. cattle producers. In another segment focused on trade, the U.S. Meat Export Federation reports that baseball legend Nolan Ryan is the new “pitch man” for an exciting campaign to promote U.S. beef in Japan.
In addition to his Hall of Fame baseball career, Ryan has spent a many years in the cattle business. He began raising cattle as a boy in Alvin, Texas, and remains active in the industry today.
Cattlemen to Cattlemen reporter Kevin Ochsner is joined by Dale Rollins, a Texas A&M professor and extension wildlife specialist, for a look at how hunting leases can provide an important supplemental income for farmers and ranchers.
And the Cattle Learning Center is back at the Camp Cooley Ranch in Texas, where experts from Purina Mills show you how proper heifer development can make a big difference in the health and profitability of your cattle herd.
