Watch: Cattlemen to Cattlemen Week 8; Original Air Date: March 27, 2007

Need some answers on Animal ID? In this week’s episode of NCBA’s Cattlemen to Cattlemen, reporter Jim Whitt spends some time with USDA Under Secretary Bruce Knight. Knight discusses the importance of premises registration and other issues surrounding the National Animal Identification System (NAIS). Learn more about premises registration and the NAIS at: http://animalid.aphis.usda.gov/nais.

In the Market Watch segment, USDA Chief Economist provides his thoughts on feedlot placements, cattle market trends, spring grazing conditions, and specialty products. More insights on market-related issues from USDA are available at:  http://www.usda.gov/oce .

U.S. officials have returned from Seoul, South Korea, frustrated with the ongoing beef trade stalemate. NCBA Chief Economist Gregg Doud represented U.S. cattlemen in Seoul, and he reports little progress was made. Korea’s blocking of U.S. beef exports remains a sticking point for the proposed U.S.-Korea Free Trade Agreement. NCBA will not support a free trade agreement with South Korea until full normalization of beef trade is achieved between the United States and South Korea.  Listen to a report on the trade talks from Gregg Doud here

At the Cattle Learning Center, Texas stockman Joel Ham joins reporter Todd McCartney to provide tips on low-stress cattle handling. You can learn more about the benefits of low-stress cattle handling from Ham and other experienced cattlemen by visiting the Cattle Learning Center’s Web site: http://cattlelearningcenter.org/DVDs.aspx.

Dell and Nancy King log over 80,000 miles every year buying, sorting, loading and shipping cattle across the southeastern United States. Travel a few miles with them as Cattlemen to Cattlemen shares a day in the life of a pair of true beef industry champions.
